Temporary housing, Meijel

A significant project has been realized for the accommodation of migrants In the small village Meijel, involving the construction of no less than 112 standard Circle concrete cascos. The Peel en Maas municipality has granted a temporary environmental permit for this project for a maximum of ten years. Remarkably, after this period, the land will be handed over to the immediate neighbors, each receiving a portion. The cascos will then be given a second life at a holiday park, embodying the flexibility that Circle stands for.

Introduced at the end of 2021, the Circle building concept consists of a standardized module. Thanks to the separation of construction, finishing, and installations, components can be easily and efficiently reused. To our current knowledge, Circle represents the most circular concrete casco in the Netherlands and likely even in Europe. With integrated foundation beams, a concrete casco can be placed directly on foundation piles, making it easily movable. Moreover, the residential units can be quickly installed at a temporary location.

The main building of the project in Meijel comprises 200 rooms of approximately 30 m² each, designed for two people but versatile enough to serve as two separate sleeping areas. In addition, the complex includes a communal building with a manager's residence, language teaching facilities, recreational and sports areas, and a bicycle storage.
